When it comes to how long does a roof last? It use to be that a metal roof could outlast them all. Not anymore with new technology shingle roofs have come a long way now lasting over 50 years on a home. There has also been the invention of and improvements to composite roofing also lasting over 50 years. Rubber roofing used on most flat roofs are usually rated to last around 20 years or so.

How do all these types of roofs compare in price? Every style roof comes in different grades which will ultimately determine pricing. Rubber roofing is going to be your cheapest with the shortest lifespan. Shingle roofing is your most common with the most economical pricing. Metal and composite roofing would be on the higher end of the scale.

With so many styles and options to choose from it can get quite confusing. The best thing to do is start off broad by choosing a general style. You can get a shingle that looks like terracotta or even a composite that looks like slate or shake. If you already know you just want a standard shingle then you need to determine how long do want it to last? Do you want to put it on once and be done or possibly have to do it again in 15-20 years. These are all things you should think about when determining a roof replacement.
